The Dessert Table Is Not Just Dessert
One of the most photographed areas of an event — and one of the easiest to get wrong. Here's how we style it.

A dessert table is one of the most photographed areas of an event. It is where guests gather, kids get excited, candles are lit, cake is cut, and the celebration gets its sweetest moment.
That is why dessert table styling matters.
Height, balance, and a clear center
A good dessert table is not just about placing treats on trays. It needs height, balance, texture, signage, serving pieces, and a clear visual center. The cake should have space to shine. Smaller desserts should be grouped in a way that feels generous but not messy. The table should connect to the event colors and theme without looking overcrowded.
Function matters too
If desserts include perishable items, food safety should be part of the plan. The FDA recommends discarding perishables left at room temperature for more than two hours, or one hour if the temperature is above 90°F. For Florida events, especially outdoor celebrations, this is important when planning timing, shade, refrigeration, and replenishment.
At The Ivory Studio, we style dessert tables so they look beautiful and flow naturally. We think about where guests will stand, how the cake-cutting photos will look, what needs to be served first, and how the table will hold up throughout the event. See a few we love in our portfolio.
Dessert is delicious. A styled dessert table becomes part of the memory.
